Hardit® 4010

Hardit 4010 metal hardening machine

Description of Process

This simple, easy-to-use process applies tungsten carbide to tools, machine parts and gripping surfaces with resultant increase wear life and improved operational characteristics. The HARDIT 4010 system incorporates a heavy power supply and a rugged air operated vibrating hand-piece.

Hardit 4010 hand pieceAs a result it can deposit a maximum tungsten carbide thickness of 100µm. The Hardit 4010 can be operated on a continuous basis either in maintenance routines or production applications.

Typically, even a relatively inexperienced operator can treat a surface of 6 cm2 in about 40 seconds and because of the portability and ease of use of the equipment, it becomes practical to repair tools and machine parts on-site with a minimum downtime.

In addition to the application of tungsten carbide to steel tools and parts, the system will also apply titanium-carbide, which is primarily used to improve the operation characteristics of solid tungsten-carbide inserts as used in lathe bits and large milling cutters. Additionally, other metals can be applied such as tool steels, stainless steel, copper silver , etc.

Equipment description

The HARDIT 4010 deposition system consists of pneumatically powered vibrating hand tool connected by a flexible cable to a heavy-duty, variable power supply. A tungsten Carbide electrode mounted in the vibrating chuck of the hand tool is lightly touched to the work surface resulting in series of hi-intensity repetitive sparks which remove tungsten-carbide particles from the electrode and deposit them on and into the work surface. The resulting layer of tungsten-carbide forms a true metallic bond with the work surface with a hardness equivalent to 82 Rockwell C. The thickness is controllable in 2.5µm increments from 2.5 µm to 100 µm by means of 5 binary selector switches which offer 31 individual settings. In addition a low/hi power ranges switch doubles this range. The power supply is fan cooled for continuous operation and includes a touch start safety circuit.
